+ADD is a studio dedicated to [A + Design + Development]. +ADD was founded in 2009 by Laura González Fierro who received her Architecture Degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City in 2002 and a Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University GSAPP in 2008. After collaborating with several architectural firms in Mexico City, Paris and New York, Laura González Fierro created +ADD, providing a whole variety of services that range from furniture design, to renovations and interior design. Our ideology is to provide accurate and creative solutions to our clients. Our design concept strives to adapt to our client’s special way of life, needs and personalities, always making us discover new approaches toward design. The prefix RE- of resource can be taken to mean “undoing”. Young architects determined to charter their own course – independently and outside the conventional paths – are free, and at the same time forced, to seek for architectural possibilities outside of institutional channels. Undoing the ties to custom lifts the veil that conceals what lies plainly around us. Like the prisoner freed from his cave, architects rediscover an unconfined source of potentialities that they had hitherto not thought of actualizing into the forms that are the product of the architectural process. In doing so, they partake in the broader mutation process that transforms Architecture from within and which is set into motion during times of environmental, economical, or theoretical crises. This process of re-creation through destruction, which culminates in the resurgence of architectural possibilities, is truly a resource: re- also means going again or back, and surgere to rise. Thus are brick walls revealed behind plywood, old beams re-contextualized into bar counters, owners remember their cousin’s skills in carpentry, and insight from sculptors, musicians, anthropologists, and economists reminds us that solving architectural problems shouldn’t be confined to Architecture’s speculations.+ADD works in collaboration with LED [Long Distance Experimental Lab]. The realization that solutions can be found across disciplines, places, people and time is the genesis of LED: create a nexus of sources connected by communication technology. Its goal is to expand Architecture’s possibilities and to propose novel solutions to its problems.
